"In his dressing room he sits, a fighter alone in his thoughts, an artist deliberating over an empty canvas, a writer whose story is still being told."
"He has a setting 400 square feet, more or less, an elevated stage in a coliseum where the masses gather, seeking either his triumph or his demise. That desire—victory or defeat, success or failure—is the driving force, the conflict, internal and external. There is a man who will punch him hundreds of times that night, sending forth hundreds of pounds of force cushioned only by eight or 10 ounces of leather and padding."
The stories of boxing range from amazing to heartbreaking, telling the tales of great stars such as Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather and recalling the swan songs of warriors such as Arturo Gatti and Erik Morales. Boxing writer David P. Greisman has seen fighters rise and fall and rise again, watched them perform at sold out arenas at the pinnacle of pro boxing and seen anonymous amateurs show just as much heart in front of a suburban ballroom.
Fighting Words The Heart and Heartbreak of Boxing contains 63 of Greisman's best dispatches from the Sweet (and sometimes not so sweet) Science from 2007 through 2012, including nine articles that have been recognized for excellence by the Boxing Writers Association of America.
Greisman is an award-winning boxing writer who has covered boxing since 2004. His articles have appeared on BoxingScene.com, FoxSports.com, MaxBoxing.com and in The Ring magazine.

Fighting Words The Heart and Heartbreak of Boxing David P Greisman 9781463608071 Books Reviews
good boxing book for the casual fan. I wish the chapters would have been more in depth instead of three pages max.
Fighting Words by David P. Greisman is a wonderful read. It's one of those books you can pick up and read just 1 chapter/essay if you don't have a ton of time or 10! Eitherway you're going to get a unique perspecitive from a excellent boxing writer. Greisman gives wonderful insight into the world of boxing, in ways that many other writers don't. I interact with him online a bit, and he's a just an all around nice guy. Most people only know one GGG in boxing, but there's another Good Guy Greisman, and watch out his books got power!

Great insightful read. Boxing fans will love it. Non boxing fans will get a glimpse into the intricate culture that has captured our hearts.
I really enjoyed FIGHTING WORDS. The book provides many insightful and thought provoking images of fights, the fighters and the sport in its entirety. David Greisman gets it.
Dave is one of the best columnists covering boxing today. His work is consistently thoughtful and original, a stark contrast to the groupthink that permeates the current fight press. As a fellow journalist and friend, this book already occupies a position of prominence in my collection of boxing books.
If you love boxing, and if you love reading great writing about boxing, this is a must-have. Greisman is an award-winning journalist. His Monday column is a must-read for any serious boxing fan, and this is an excellent collection of the best of them to date.
Short stories of more than just the actual fights. In a way only "real" boxing fans can appreciate, Greisman takes you inside the events as he writes about them. Heart AND Heartbreak, indeed.
